From time to time customers are taken a back by the estimated cost of necessary repairs for their vehicle.
A few weeks ago a customer brought in his twelve year old Nissan Maxima with a brake vibration problem. The car had about a hundred and fifty-five thousand miles on the odometer. Our ASE Certified Technician turned in a repair estimation for a complete brake job, including brake fluid flush, at over seven-hundred dollars.
“What!?” The customer exclaimed. “I’m not sure that car isn’t worth what you are quoting me for the brake job!” He thought about it for a few minutes and then asked. “Do you know where I can get a good used car?”
“You have a good used car.” I reminded him. “You know this vehicle well. You likely have all of the maintenance records on it. It would easily cost you six, seven-thousand dollars or more to replace this with a ‘good used car’ and then you don’t know what you are getting.”
The customer thought this over for a couple of minutes and then told us to go ahead and fix the car.
This customer came back a few weeks later with a friend of his who was having a problem with his Jeep where he wasn’t getting much heat. While the customer was advising his friend to bring the jeep to us for evaluation he was also remarking at how well his Nissan was stopping and handling since the brake job.
This customer not only came back but brought in a new customer in with him.
