Let’s talk about your car battery today. When people come into our shop and need a new battery they sometimes are not happy about having to spend the money. The fact is, a good quality battery won’t last much more than four years. But there are some things that you can do to extend the life of your battery.
First, keep it clean. If you notice it getting dirty or greasy, let us know and we can clean it off. A dirty battery runs hotter and that shortens its life. If your battery terminals are corroded, let us take a look at that too. If the corrosion has gotten into the cables themselves we can replace them.
Also, letting your battery run down is bad for it. Things like leaving the headlights on, or watching a DVD player with the motor turned off, can deeply deplete your battery. The typical battery can only take about ten of these deep cycle depletions before it gives up completely.
If you often take short trips around town with lots of stops for errands, your battery can end up not getting a full charge. And this also will shorten battery life.
When it’s finally time to get a new battery we can help you choose the right one for your vehicle.
